CUT THE CRAP: GREEN GIRLS DEVOUR LIFE
Green Girls! How’d you spend Earth Day-slash-my birthday? I have a confession to make. This birthday was particularly hard for me. Yeah, yeah…many of my friends have already given me the lecture. You know the one. The “women-should-embrace-their-age-and-not-be so hard-on-themselves,” blahdy blah blah. I know they're all right, believe me I do. It’s just that I had one of those seminal moments where I put on my b-day frock for my little b-day fete/soiree and had a little pity party for one. The dress was a bright yellow number with black trim and as I looked in the mirror, I felt like an older, fat bumble bee – to
which my sassy gay bestie promptly said “cut the crap, for chrissakes. You’re older and only you can choose to make yourself a better vintage than last year. So no more sour grapes…have some chocolate and get over yourself!” Oh-kay. Alrighty then. So much for a little sympathy. Still, he was right. I commiserated with my friend’s pooch, whom he affectionately calls “Vajayjay,” and had a little talk with myself. I’m going to cut the crap and y’all better watch out this year.
I have to tell you that I did receive the most fabulous trinkets and gifts from my pals for
my birthday. To cut to the chase, I managed to amass hoards of treasure from a girl’s three basic food groups: bread, wine and chocolate. How could that be a bad thing? Spirits lifted immediately. In particular, I did receive something which could quite possibly be one my new favorite things on earth – chocolate from Theo Chocolate – they make premium organic, fair trade and specialty chocolate. Theo is proud to be the only roaster of organic cocoa beans and the first roaster of Fair Trade certified cocoa beans in the United States. All of their ingredients are carefully selected to ensure they meet standards of social and environmental responsibility. Right on. Right on. Check out what Green Girl Rachel has to say about chocolate and beauty here.
Don’t get me wrong, I did have a nice birthday dinner with a boy (who shall go unamed), but I think he got edged out, sadly, in favor of Theo’s “Bread and Chocolate” bar from their “3400 Phinney Chocolate” collection. I tried one and had a total PG orgasm. Seriously…it was too good. All the synapses in my brain and all my endorphins kicked in at once and I had to lay down and nap after eating it. It’s smooth dark chocolate with little, crunchy,
salty bits-o-toasty French bread. I mean, have you EVER? That with a little (ummm, less-than-smallish, I guess?) glass of pinot and come on! They have other incredible flavors including Coconut Curry Milk Chocolate and Fig, Fennel & Almond Dark Chocolate, but the Bread and Chocolate wins hands down – ding ding ding!!! If I keep this up I won’t fit into next month’s new virtual outfit and they may have to let it out more than a few pixels, but again, “cut the crap.” You only live once, that you remember, anyways. Chocolate anyone?
And the dating sitch has improved, as well, I’m happy to say. I did manage to get some dating advice from Stephen David from Online Dating Edge, a site that offers resources and dating consulting – specifically for online dating. Zikes, I do need me some tips and what to look for – especially the creepy things to watch out for. Check out their “15 Dating Tips for 2008." Alexander Stone and Stephen David were featured on Candace Bushnell's (Sex and the City) 'Battle of the Sexes' on Thursday April 24th and you can tune in this Thursday (5/1/08) on Sirius Radio, Channel 102, for a replay of the show. I’ll let you know what happens….
Speaking of food…you all know I’m a huge foodie. That may be an understatement or a pun, I can’t decide which :D. I may or may not partake in some emotional eating, I’ll admit it. Again, chocolate anyone? But if I’m going there, then perchance I should check out some healthy indulgences. In partnership with The Eco Home Network and the Santa Monica Farmers Market, Eco Umbrella presents “The Green Gourmet™ Eco Speaker Series that will combine organic food prepared by fabulous green chefs, coupled with organic spirits & wines... from green-minded connoisseurs. There’s a Preview Party for the Green Gourmet Eco Speaker Series (officially launches during the Summer of 2008 with Discovery Channel's Chef Nathan Lyon). Count me IN. Dude, do you even have to ask? I think I’m going to check it out and pursue some green nosh. Halla, Green Girls…you know what to do! Email me at askgigi@greengirlguide.com!
